Race Equality Charter

The Equality Challenge Unit's Race Equality Charter (REC) aims to improve the representation, progress and success of Black and minority ethnic staff and students in higher education.

It provides a framework that institutions can use to identity and consider the institutional and cultural barriers that cause racial disafvantage in higher education.

Institutions that sign up to the REC can develop strategies and solutions to improve race equality and can apply for a bronze or silver award depending on their level of progress.

REC covers:

  1. Professional and support staff
  2. Academic staff
  3. Student progression and attainment
  4. Diversity of the curriclum
